There has been a lot of news in the mobile industry since the Mobile World Congress began. They Range from the high-end smartphones (Asus Padfone) to really low-end (Nokia 105). But one phone that no one is talking about yet, which also falls in the low-end category (Not as low as the Nokia 105) is the ZTE phone with Firefox OS. It is the first ever phone to directly come out with Firefox OS.

Unlike the Ubuntu OS, Firefox OS isn’t really that much talked about. People know it’s coming soon, but no one seems to be excited about it. Users and Media alike.

The phone launching the Firefox OS is ZTE Open. It’s not a high-end phone as some would expect, but then it doesn’t come as a surprise either. The era of iOS and Android begun only few years ago, people are still busy exploring those. The likes of Ubuntu and Firefox don’t stand a chance to keep up with them, let alone beating them in future. However, ZTE Open features a 3.5-inch HVGA TFT touchscreen display. With all the 5-inch phones raining, 3.5” feels small. The screen appears to be washed out and reminds of Androids earlier days, as Verge reports.  It is powered by Cortex A5 processor. Also features a 3.2 Megapixel camera, 256MB DDR SDRAM, supports 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-FI. Other features include, Ambient light sensor, FM Radio, GPS and Bluetooth 2.1.

The device will the entering the market as an entry-level smartphone. People who are already used to mid-to-high end smartphones wouldn’t really see this phone as an option if they ever plan to buy a new one. Apart from your standard social media applications, we are still not sure if other apps will be available soon. So many mainstream apps are still to feature in the Windows Marketplace for windows phones. So, you can imagine the time it might take for such applications to be available on an operating system like Firefox OS or even Ubuntu, who still obviously has an upper hand among these two.

It is yet to been seen which countries ZTE will target for this phone. Maybe they can improve the hardware and experiment to see if people approve of the OS on a high-end phones. You can also watch the Hands-on Video here.
