WhatsApp $1 Billion Google buyout Not happening, Confirmed

By -

WhatsApp has finally put all the rumors (regarding talks about selling the company to Google) to rest. WhatsApp has confirmed that the company is not involved in any talks with Google about the sale.

All the social media and tech websites were flooded with news and rumors about WhatsApp reportedly being in talks with Google for selling WhatsApp for $1 billion. However, Neeraj Arora, Business Development Head for WhatsApp has spoken with AllThingsD and confirmed saying, the company is not involved in any sales talk with the search giant. Mr. Arora declined to provide any more details apart from confirming the current one.

Google is not the only company which was being rumored to buy WhatsApp, similar news had spread last year in December, and the company in question was Facebook. WhatsApp released a statement at the time saying that the “article was a rumor and was not factually accurate”.

It is weird that the rumor involved Google as the company looking to buy WhatsApp, because only few weeks prior, it was reported that Google is already working on its own messaging app named Google “Babble”, while some have reported that the name actually is “Babel”. Though none of them may really be the final name once the app released.

The reason why these rumors don’t strike anyone as surprise is because WhatsApp is, undeniably, the most widely used cross-platform messaging app today. It is available in more than 100 countries and its app is available for almost mobile platforms such as Apple iOS, Android, Blackberry OS, recently released Blackberry 10, Nokia Symbian S60 and Nokia Series S40, and Windows Phone.

Any company looking to buy WhatsApp will hugely benefit from its business and existing loyal users, the number of which is also insanely huge. Apart from phone, an application named BlueStacks lets you install and use WhatsApp (and other Android apps too!) on your computer, it is available to download for Windows XP or later and Mac OS X Snow Leopard or later.

Some WhatsApp alternatives include LINE, KakaoTalk Messenger, Kik MessengerWeChat, Facebook Messenger, Skype and Viber.

WhatsApp is based in California and was founded in 2009 by Brian Acton and Jan Koum.
